What is Rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation programs help people recovering from injury, illness or surgery regain their strength and mobility, relearn skills, and find new ways of doing things – ultimately functioning with the highest possible level of independence in their home and community of choice.

Rehabilitation often focuses on:

  • improving balance, strength, mobility and conditioning
  • safely completing daily activities of self-care and household tasks
  • cognition and communication
  • nutrition, hydration and swallow
  • management of pain.

Commencing a rehabilitation program soon after surgery, injury or illness has many benefits - including reduced:

  • recovery time
  • pain and suffering
  • likelihood of hospital re-admission (decreases your chances of being re-admitted to hospital)
  • level of injury impairment, and a quicker and safer return to the home environment.

Each person’s needs and therapy objectives are different. As such, our rehabilitation team works with each patient and their family to design a personalised therapy program with individual goals and objectives.

You are an active member of your rehabilitation team. A substantial part of your day at Eden will be spent engaging in various forms of therapy and/or exercise. Your participation is vital to achieving your program goals.
