Eden’s Specialists in Rehabilitation Medicine conduct an assessment of each patient to establish their suitability for rehabilitation. They are also responsible for overseeing the implementation of the rehabilitation program and liaise with team members regarding your progress towards the achievement of your rehabilitation goals.
The Specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine also liaises with your doctor to communicate your progress and ensure continuity of care.
Dr Gerrit Fialla

Director of Rehabilitation Services
Dr Gerrit Fialla commenced as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Eden in early 2005 before being appointed Director of Rehabilitation Services in February 2006. Dr Fialla studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He has extensive experience in Rehabilitation Medicine – having held the position of Director of Rehabilitation and Aged Care at the Wentworth Area Health Service in NSW between 1997-2004.
Dr Fialla’s areas of special interest include Geriatric Rehabilitation, Stroke Management, Amputee Management and Leg Ulcer Management.
Dr David Eckerman

Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine
Dr David Eckerman studied for his primary degree in Medicine at the Central University of Venezuela. At the completion of his studies, David took a rural post in the mountains in Caracas. He then migrated to Australia, training in rehabilitation in Sydney where he was exposed to a broad range of rehabilitation pathologies and techniques.
Dr Eckerman has significant experience in Neurorehabilitation – with a particular interest in Spasticity/Dystonia Management, Stroke Rehabilitation and Neurodegenerative Diseases, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Chronic Pain Management. Dr Eckerman also has expertise in Spinal Medicine, Brain Injury, Geriatric and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
