Dr Poch Malte
commenced as Registrar at Eden Rehabilitation Centre in June 2008.
Poch graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in The Phillippines before studying for his medical degree. Following the completion of his studies, he worked as a Resident in a private tertiary hospital whilst also working one day a week as a corporate General Practitioner.
Upon relocating to Australia, Poch commenced at Nambour General Hospital where he spent two years as a Resident. During one of his clinical rotations he became interested in Rehabilitation Medicine.
“In Rehabilitation Medicine, you actually get to see the patient make physical gains,” Poch commented. “You can be part of the process that helps a patient progress from a wheelchair to being able to walk.”
“I also like the fact that you are working as part of a team, as you can brainstorm with allied health professionals and offer the patient a holistic view not just focus on one part of thebody as you do with other areas of medicine.”
Although he never practiced professionally as a physiotherapist, Poch’s background in studying allied health gives him an extra ability to appreciate the therapists’ perspective and understand the rehabilitation process as a whole.
